Cast as many as you want
Every cast is yours — the lines, the hexagram, the classical reading that goes with it. No quota, no credit. Saved to your journal with the question that prompted it.
I Ching
Reaching for the coins.
I Ching
Ask a real question — about a decision, a relationship, a tough moment. The I Ching is an ancient Chinese oracle — three coins, six lines, one of sixty-four answers. We do the cast, you read it.
Why it matters
Not horoscope filler. A three-thousand-year-old answer to the question you actually asked.
What's inside
Free
Every cast is yours — the lines, the hexagram, the classical reading that goes with it. No quota, no credit. Saved to your journal with the question that prompted it.
First on the house
Every new account gets one free personal interpretation — a real read of your specific cast against your specific question, in plain English. After that, subscription credits or a top-up pack unlock more.
With a subscription
Daily Reading gets 5 personal readings a month. Full Access gets 20. Buy a pack any time — credits never expire — and earn bonus credits when a shared cast brings a friend in. The free classical layer keeps working either way.
Method
The coins are flipped with the same kind of randomness used for encryption — there's no seed, nothing to game. The reading draws on the classical Chinese tradition, in modern English.
For the curious
We use Node's crypto.randomBytes for the coin flips — the same random-number generator used for cryptographic keys. There is no deterministic seed, no client-side draw, nothing the seeker (or we) can game. The cast is genuinely undetermined at the moment you submit.
The classical line: Richard Wilhelm's German translation (1924), Cary F. Baynes's English (1950), and the Ten Wings commentary. We render it in modern English without losing the original images and metaphors — heaven over earth, fire over water, the well, the cauldron.
Six lines (each a 6, 7, 8, or 9), the primary hexagram they form, the resulting hexagram if any lines are changing (the trajectory the cast is moving toward), the trigram decomposition (upper-and-lower three-line components), the classical Chinese name, the Wilhelm interpretation, and the image. Every cast you draw is kept in your journal at /me/casts with the question that prompted it.
Staying plants a tree
From your second month on, every renewal plants a real, verified tree through Tree-Nation — with species, GPS coordinates, and a public certificate. Your first month is on us. The forest grows in your name as long as you stay.
